# Unread messages and read marks

Messages in the menu shows how many messages you have not read. Under your last message, Sent becomes Seen with the time once the other person has read it.

## See what you have not read

- “Messages” in the menu shows the number of messages you have not read.
- In the list of conversations, a conversation with unread messages is in bold, with its number.

If you belong to several workspaces, the workspace switcher shows the unread messages of each one.

A message counts as read only when you look at it: the conversation is open and the Skileo window is in front.

## See who has read your message

- In a chat between two people, your last message shows “Sent”. It becomes **Seen** with the time once the other person has read it.
- In a channel or a group, the small pictures of the members show under the last message each one has read. Point at a picture to see the name and the time.

## See who is online

In a chat between two people, the top of the conversation shows if the other person is “Online”, active a few minutes ago or “Offline”. A dot on their picture shows the same.


## Common questions

### Does Skileo send an e-mail for a new message?

No. Skileo sends no e-mail and plays no sound for a new message. Only calls ring. See [Make a voice or video call](https://www.skileo.com/help/en/voice-and-video-calls).

### Can I mark a message as unread?

No. A message is read once you have seen it.

### Why does my message still say Sent?

The other person has not opened the conversation since you sent it.

### Can I turn off the read marks?

No. Everyone in a conversation sees who has read it.
