# Search messages and shared files

Open a conversation and click Search messages at the top. Search in this conversation or in all chats. Shared files and links lists the photos, files and links sent in a conversation.

## Search messages

1. Open a conversation in “Messages”.
2. Click “Search messages”: the magnifying glass at the top right.
3. Choose “In this conversation” or “All chats”.
4. Type at least 2 characters.
5. Click a result to go to that message.

Every word you type must be in the message. A word also finds longer words that start with it. The words found are highlighted.

The results show the newest messages first. Click “Show older results” for more.

Skileo remembers your choice of “In this conversation” or “All chats” in this browser.

## Find a photo, a file or a link

1. Open the conversation.
2. Click “Shared files and links” at the top right.
3. Choose “Photos”, “Files” or “Links”.

The newest come first. Click one to go to the message that holds it.

## Find a conversation

Type a name in “Search conversations”, above the list of conversations. Ctrl+K (⌘K on a Mac) goes to this box.


## Common questions

### Does the search look in the messages of other people's chats?

No. It only looks in the conversations you can see.

### Does the search look inside the files?

No. It looks in the text of the messages.
