# What invoice statuses mean

The status shows where an invoice stands. Skileo sets it from the payments and the due date, so an invoice turns Paid by itself once its payments cover the total.

## The statuses

You see the status in the “Status” column of the list and at the top of the invoice page.

- “Draft”: an invoice Skileo made for you that nobody has saved yet, for example a copy of a repeating invoice or an invoice read from a PDF. Open it, check it, give it a number if it has none, and save it.
- “Not paid”: nothing is paid yet, and the due date has not passed. An invoice without a due date stays “Not paid” until it is paid.
- “Overdue”: nothing is paid, and the due date has passed.
- “Partially paid”: the client has paid part of the invoice. The status stays the same after the due date.
- “Paid”: the payments cover the total, or more.
- “Void”: the invoice is cancelled. It stays in the list, faded, and counts in no total.

## What changes the status

Skileo sets the status for you:

- A payment, recorded by you or made online by the client, turns the invoice “Partially paid” or “Paid”. See [Record a payment on an invoice](https://www.skileo.com/help/en/record-an-invoice-payment).
- A credit note lowers the amount due, like a payment. See [Create a credit note](https://www.skileo.com/help/en/create-a-credit-note).
- The due date passing turns “Not paid” into “Overdue”.
- Saving a draft in the invoice form turns it “Not paid”, or “Overdue” if its due date has passed.

You can't choose “Paid” or “Partially paid” yourself: record the payment instead.

## Make an invoice void

Make an invoice void when it should not be paid but must stay in your records.

1. In the list, click the actions button (**⋮**) at the end of the invoice's line.
2. Choose “Mark as void”.

This works only on an invoice with no payment: “Not paid”, “Overdue” or “Draft”. The amounts don't change.

## Make a void invoice active again

1. Click the actions button (**⋮**) on the line of the void invoice.
2. Choose “Undo void”.

The invoice becomes “Not paid”, or “Overdue” if its due date has passed. An invoice that was a draft before you voided it doesn't go back to draft.

## Common questions

### Why can't I make an invoice void?

It has a payment, or a credit note. An invoice with any payment can't be made void. Delete its payments first, if they were recorded by mistake.

### Why is a late invoice not “Overdue”?

The client has paid part of it. An invoice paid in part shows “Partially paid”, even after its due date.

### Why does a credit note show “Paid”?

A credit note linked to an invoice settles its part of that invoice. Skileo shows it as “Paid”.

### How do I find the overdue invoices?

In the “Payment status” filter, “Not paid” shows the unpaid invoices, late ones included. Show the “Due” column with the column button, and sort the list by it. The “Overdue” total at the top shows how much is late.
