# Find and preview documents

Search Documents by name or filter by type, person, software, expiry or tag. Click a file's icon to preview it in Skileo: PDF, images, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and more.

## Find a document

Open “Documents” in the menu. The list starts with the documents of the software you are in, the newest first.

- **Search**: click the search button and type a word of the title.
- **Filters**: click “Show filters”, then choose “Document type”, “Assigned to”, “Software module”, “Expiry” or “Tags”.
- **Tags**: click a tag under a document's title to show every document with that tag.

To see the documents of every software, choose them all in “Software module”, or clear the filter.

To show or hide columns, such as “Size” or “Expires”, click “Customize columns”.

## Preview a file

Click the file's icon in front of its title, or its name in the “File” column. The file opens over the list.

- Use the arrows, or the ← and → keys, to go to the previous or next document.
- Click “Download” to save the file.
- Press Esc to close the preview.

On a document's page, the “File” tab shows the file too.

## Which files you can preview

- PDF
- Images: JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, BMP and AVIF
- Word (.docx) and PowerPoint (.pptx)
- Spreadsheets: Excel (.xlsx, .xls), OpenDocument (.ods) and CSV
- Text files (.txt)
- Videos: MP4 and WebM

Other files, such as old Word files (.doc) or ZIP archives, show “No preview for this file type yet”. Click “Download” to open them on your computer.

> **Tip**
> Skileo shows the file in your browser. The file is never sent to an outside viewer.

## The document's page

Click a document's title to open its page. At the top are its facts: “Access”, “Expires” and “Tags”. Below are three tabs:

- “File” (or “Link”): the file, with its details at the bottom.

- “Activity”: what happened to it, such as who shared it or confirmed reading it.


## Common questions

### Why can't I find a document?

It may belong to another software. Clear the “Software module” filter. It may also be private to the person who added it. See [Who can see a document](https://www.skileo.com/help/en/who-can-see-a-document).

### Why does a large spreadsheet look cut?

The preview shows the first 1,000 rows and 50 columns. Download the file to see all of it.

### Can I preview a link document?

No. A link opens in a new tab. Click its address, or “Open the link” on its page.
