# Copy, void or delete an invoice

In the invoice's menu, Copy makes a new unpaid invoice, Mark as void cancels the invoice, and Delete moves it to the trash. An invoice with a payment can't be voided or deleted.

## Copy an invoice

Use a copy to bill the same client for the same things again.

1. Open “Finances” › “Sales invoices” in the menu.
2. Click the actions button (**⋮**) at the end of the invoice's line and choose “Copy”.

Skileo saves the copy at once and opens it, so you can change what you need. The copy:

- takes the next number of your series,
- is dated today, with a due date at the end of this month,
- has no payment,
- keeps the client, the lines and the repeat schedule,
- doesn't keep the additional documents or an uploaded PDF.

If the invoice repeats, the copy repeats too. Turn off “Create a recurring invoice” in the copy if you don't want both to repeat. See [Make an invoice repeat](https://www.skileo.com/help/en/repeat-an-invoice).

The copy of a draft is a draft, and the copy of a void invoice is void. The copy of a credit note is a new credit note on the same invoice: it lowers the amount due again.

If you don't need the copy, delete it.

## Make an invoice void

Make an invoice void when it should not be paid but must stay in your records, for example to keep its number.

1. Click the actions button (**⋮**) on the invoice's line.
2. Choose “Mark as void”.

The invoice stays in the list, faded, with the status “Void”. It counts in no total. To make it active again, choose “Undo void” in the same menu. See [What invoice statuses mean](https://www.skileo.com/help/en/invoice-statuses).

## Delete an invoice

1. Click the actions button (**⋮**) on the invoice's line.
2. Choose “Delete”.
3. Confirm with “Yes, delete it!”

To delete several invoices at once, tick them in the list and choose “Delete” at the top.

The invoice goes to the “Trash”, where you can restore it. See [How the trash works](https://www.skileo.com/help/en/how-the-trash-works).

## Invoices you can't void or delete

An invoice with a payment, even a part payment or a credit note, can't be made void or deleted. Delete its payments first, if they were recorded by mistake. See [Record a payment on an invoice](https://www.skileo.com/help/en/record-an-invoice-payment).

When you delete several invoices and one of them can't be deleted, Skileo deletes none. Untick that invoice and try again.

## Common questions

### Should I void or delete an invoice?

Void an invoice you have already sent: it stays in your records with its number. Delete an invoice you made by mistake and never sent.

### Why are “Mark as void” and “Delete” missing from the menu?

The invoice has a payment or a credit note, which locks it. On a void invoice, the menu offers “Undo void” instead of “Mark as void”.

### Can I get a deleted invoice back?

Yes, from the “Trash”, as long as nobody deleted it for good. See [Restore a deleted item](https://www.skileo.com/help/en/restore-deleted-items).

### Can I change a paid invoice instead?

No. A payment locks the invoice. Delete the payments first, then change it.
