# Ask people to confirm they read a document

Turn on Ask them to confirm they read it when you share a document. Each person gets an I have read it button, and you see who confirmed and when.

## Ask for a confirmation

1. Add a document, or open one and click “Edit”.
2. Choose the people in “Associate with”, and keep the share switch on.
3. Under “Access”, turn on “Ask them to confirm they read it”.
4. Click “Save”.

The switch works only for a document shared with someone. Without anyone to ask, it stays off.

## What the person sees

In their “Documents” list, the document shows “To confirm”. When they open it, a banner at the top says “Please confirm you have read this document”.

They open the file, read it, and click “I have read it”. Skileo records the date.

## See who confirmed

- In the list, the “Access” column shows how many people confirmed, for example 2 of 3.
- On the document's page, “Read confirmation” shows the same count.
- The “Access” tab shows each person's state: confirmed with the date, opened but not confirmed yet, or not opened yet.

## Stop asking

Open the document, click “Edit”, and turn “Ask them to confirm they read it” off. Click “Save”.

The confirmations already given are kept. If you ask again later, they show again.

## Common questions

### Does the person get an e-mail asking them to confirm?

No. They get the e-mail that the document is shared with them, if it is new to them. The request shows in Skileo, on the document.

### Can someone confirm without opening the file?

Yes. Skileo can't check that they read it. But it records when each person opened the document: check it in the “Access” tab.

### Can a person take back a confirmation?

No. Once they click “I have read it”, the confirmation stays with its date.
