# Add a contact

In Contacts, click Add new, then Create contact. Choose company or private person, the relation and the name, add how to reach them, then click Create contact.

## Create the contact

1. Open “Contacts” in the menu.
2. Click “Add new”, then “Create contact”.
3. Fill in the sections below. Fields with a star are required.
4. Click “Create contact”.

Skileo goes back to the list, and the contact is ready to use on your quotes and invoices.

## “Who they are”

- “Contact type”: choose “Company” or “Private person”.
- “Relation”: Client, Supplier, Client and Supplier, or Prospect. See [How contacts work](https://www.skileo.com/help/en/contacts-overview).
- “Company name”, or “Full name” for a private person.
- For a company: the “VAT number”, the “Company identification number” and the “Legal representative”.
- For a private person: the “Personal identification number”.

You can also add a logo. It shows next to the contact's name in the list.

## Fill in a company from its VAT number

1. Type the “VAT number”, for example FR123456789.
2. Click the search button at the end of the field, or press Enter.

Skileo looks the company up and fills in the name and the address fields that are still empty. It never replaces what you typed. This works for VAT numbers of the European Union.

## “How to reach them”

“Shown on the quotes and invoices you send them.”

- “Company email” and “Company phone” for a company, “Contact email” and “Contact phone” for a private person.
- “Address”, “City”, “ZIP”, “State” and “Country”.

## “More options”

Click “More options” to add:

- “Description”: a note about this contact.
- “Contact persons”: the people you deal with there. Click “Add a contact person” and fill in their “Name”, “Relationship”, “Email” and “Phone”.

When you choose this contact on a quote, the first contact person fills in the recipient's name and e-mail, if they are still empty.

## Add a contact from a quote or an invoice

You don't need to leave your quote or invoice to add a contact.

1. Click the plus button next to the client or supplier field.
2. Fill in the form in the panel that opens.
3. Click “Create contact”.

“Saved to your contacts and selected here.”

## Common questions

### Which fields are required?

The “Relation” and the name. Everything else is optional, but the address and the VAT number are printed on your invoices, so add them if your invoices need them.

### Why don't I see the plus button on my quote?

You need permission to change contacts. See [Who can see and change contacts](https://www.skileo.com/help/en/who-can-see-contacts).

### Can I add many contacts at once?

Yes, from a spreadsheet. See [Import contacts from a spreadsheet](https://www.skileo.com/help/en/import-contacts-from-a-spreadsheet).
